Hello Analysis Engineering Network
Why write a review when 15,000+ others have done so? Just want to weigh in. I’m not going to go over every nuance of dictionaries, annotation and so on. I bought the Kindle only because I’m going on an extended out of country trip where packing lots of books won’t be practical. Had I never seen an i-phone, I probably would have given the Kindle 4 stars. But the design elements are so far behind some of the free readers available on the iphone that it’s almost painful to use. For instance:
- The world isn’t black and white. Reading a book is not only an intellectual exercise, it’s a sensory one. Kindle doesn’t eat up battery power, but the bland and boring, endlessly similar fonts and gray background, really drains my energy. Compared to 3D Bookshelf, Stanza, or other free iphone readers, the experience on the Kindle is unappealing.
- I’m a really fast reader. I don’t mind turning pages on a real book. I don’t mind “flicking” pages on an iphone. The endless click-clicking of the “next page” button on the Kindle is really annoying. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.
- Editing is often sloppy on the books I’ve found on Kindle so far. Granted, more print books are being sloppily edited these days, thanks to publishing losses and cutbacks. But I find words completely left out, hyphenations that make no sense, and missing punctuation on a number of Kindle books I’ve bought (no, not freebies – best sellers).
- In addition to sloppy editing, the electronic book layout as shown on the Kindle makes it harder to spot intentional spaces left by the author to indicate a separation in time or a switch to another character. These don’t flow or show up the same way on the Kindle, leading to some confusing reading (which means it’s harder to get “lost” in the story).
So … 3 stars (really, 2.5). It’s fine for what it is – a convenient way to take a bunch of books with me on a trip. I will still buy books I want to keep, and though mentioning the word “lib

This is the best purchase I have ever made! It reads like a real book and Amazon has so many free books that you don’t even have to purchase for your Kindle. Sometimes I forget I’m using my Kindle and I try to flip the page like a real book. It’s the best product for a real book-reader. I was even able to buy some of my text books on it to use for school. Awesome product!

I bought this scale to replace a mechanical dial type. Though the dial was large, the individual pound lines were difficult to see. I am a member of the over 50 crowd, and I got tired of crouching down on the scale to try to make out my exact weight. This new EastSmart digital scale is easy to read, the numbers are huge! It turns on automatically when you step on it. It is smallish and the platform is see through, making it seem even less intrusive. Though I have a small bathroom, the footprint of this scale is small enough that I can leave it out all the time. And it looks good, stylish. It is just a scale, simple, no extra bells and whistles. The price is great. I would definitely recommend this item.

If I could give the book a zero I would.
I kid you not. Because an obviously talented author, with a great premise either didn’t believe in her own ability to tell a story or refused to do her homework on a place where she resided. First, just about everyone in the South, both white, black and even immigrants from other countries, if you live there long enough speak with a southern drawl. But in this book, you’d think the white characters came from England. Also the black dialect is so off the mark that I had trouble figuring out what they were saying. Was Stockett making it up as she went along? Or was this a case of listening but not hearing. Please understand, African Americans bend, chop and change words, but all of it has a purpose. Think about music and singing. Remember how the Beatles came over and said that they admired Black musicians like Little Richard? and that during the British invasion, many of the acts sung without an accent? So why is it that Black venacular is either imitated, duplicated but never appreciated, even though it gives flavor to almost every contemporary movie, and is used whenever screenwriters want to show a character is “down.”
The Black maids in this book spoke so badly I have no idea how the white and the blacks communicated (note to future authors, no black person says “Law” for “Lord.” We know the difference. It’s “Lawd” if you must write it). Not only that, but while the book is titled “The Help” the reader is given little insight on the lives, loves or deep thought processes of the very characters it claims to be about.
Why not? Skeeter has a man, is looking for a job, and a family. But her co-protag Abileen only references her son, has no romantic ties (male or female)constaintly frets about the white children she looks after, does her domestic duties with nary a complaint, in short, she’s the stoic, long suffering with dignity minority stock character.
Listen, this is 2010. Minorities deserve better. We want fully flesh

This book that so many have pertained to as “insightful,” was merely a waste of time and money in my opinion. If you are reading this book thinking about how insightful the questions are, you’re obviously not very insightful yourself. If you’re reading the answers to the questions and thinking how insightful they are, you’re not very creative. The opinions this man offers as “answers from God” make me feel like I am watching a political debate between our worthless government involving a j*ck*ss and elephant poop.(Catch my drift?)If you really want a truly interesting read, try The Satanic Bible or the real Bible. The writing in either of those two books put this one to complete shame.
