Water for Elephants”
A Novel, Written By Sara Gruen

Book Review by Jay Gilbertson

Who, in their right mind, doesn’t like the circus? If you answered “yes,” then this book is for you. If you answered “no” then this book is for you too. There is something for everyone in this tremendously well-researched novel of schizophrenic madmen, a possible murderer in pink sequins and a towering heroine who happens to be addicted to lemonade. What could be more fun?

A depression-era circus can be the best place to be if you’re Jacob Jankowski and you just buried your parents, found out they mortgaged everything they owned to send you off to veterinary college and ultimately you had nothing left to lose.

Some of the central themes of this page-turner are to follow your instincts, stay true to what you believe in and try to survive no matter what. It’s the what part that kept me flying through the book. The story shifts back and forth from Jacob at ninety (or ninety-three–he’s not sure) to his incredible life on the train with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show On Earth–the circus! By incredible, I mean that there is a constant fear-factor woven underneath every nuance, every situation is rubbed raw in not ever being entirely sure of just what the future holds, or even if Jacob has one. That dread is dolled out in buckets-full by the head honcho of Benzini Brothers–Uncle Al–who can have you “red-lighted” (tossed off the train) for any number of indiscretions, or simply to lesson the load. The incredible part is that, in the end, Jacob not only manages to become the circus veterinarian, he also gets the girl, a bereaved dog, one elephant (Rosie) and eleven horses. Who could ask for more, you ask? Jacob Jankowski, that’s who.

Then there are the animals. A team of “Liberty” horses, lions and zebras and llamas, giraffes, chimps, panthers, and Rosie–the elephant–the Polish elephant no less. The elephant that, like all elephants, drinks far more water than anyone cou

Take care of 13In Apple Mb Apple

2000 readers can’t be wrong can they? Umm, yea they might be.

How is it that a mediocre book can consistently get raves?
I was excited by the “prospect” of this book but the more I read, the more resigned I became to the fact that there was nothing very extraordinary about it.
Not only is the writing flat and the plot a giant cliche – there’s also the matter of the central “love” triangle being blatantly lifted from Sophie’s Choice (I cringe referring to that classic alongside this book) right down to the suprise party / angry accusation by a lunatic.

Mediocrity is being rewarded with a big Hollywood movie starring Reese Witherspoon. Ahh, American pop culture.

Sounds good by the title, but this is another New Age that offers nothing. I threw it in the trash the day I bought it.

Apple iPhone 3GS Replacement the best

I ordered the Wii for myself. I am 43 years old. I am loving it! My family loves it and we have lots of fun playing. Everyone who comes over wants to play the wii also. The graphics are much better than any other game I have ever seen. When I ordered it from Amazon, they said it would be here on a specific day and it was. No problems.

S Apple Green Granny and me

I take my time before buying things and for a couple of years I had been joking about buying an XBox. When the time to buy came, I researched and decided on a Wii. It exceeded anything I could have expected. The two points which sold me are 1) you have to get up off the couch and get active to play and 2) the focus isn’t so much on violence, blood and killing. I’m a senior citizen and my daughter picked this up for me. We played it until our arms were numb and she is looking to get her own Wii so we can play on-line. I check the daily weather and news stories on my Wii and my friends and I will soon start a bowling league. For the price, you can’t beat this system. If I were paying 50 cents for every game I played, it would have paid for itself in a month or two. The software selection is great and the prices are reasonable. I rate the Wii right up there with the Internet and the ATM. Get yours and you’ll see.

Is Classic Ipod 80GB Apple suck?

First off, it did not quite fit my 80gb. Secondly, even by following the instructions, I was not able to remove my ipod without first breaking the case. DO NOT BUY THIS CHEAP PRODUCT!!!

I like 8 nano Apple iPod

This 8GB (PRODUCT) RED iPod nano is the greatest! I love using it for the gym and just all around; it is so convenient to use! The 2nd generation iPod nano is a lot more reliable than the 3rd generation nano in my opinion.

Take 3G 3GS Apple iPhone

For those of you who some how think that u need to spend $50-$100 for these hdmi cables, YOU are dead wrong. I bought a VIZIO 26′ 1080p HDTV for my room, and it works just as well if I spent the super bucks. Ima college student that loves tech and video games, so for a cheap price as this it was perfect for me. When connected to my Xbox 360 it supports the Full 1080p and I can connect my Dell inspiron 1525 with the HDMI cable to my Vizio and it uupgrades my 720 Laptop to the full 1080p! What people think about APPLE 0890 661 Apple

I just received my scale today. After an easy setup (install included batteries, set on floor, get on and off the scale ONCE to allow the scale to enter a self calibration mode) and when calibration was complete, I was able to weigh myself repeatedly with the same weight results returned each time, to the decimal (.2 pound increments.)

Just to be clear, calibration is only necessary when installing batteries or when the scale is moved. Otherwise, the scale truly is “Step-On” and weigh yourself (no more tapping the scale to turn it on as noted in many of the reviews of the earlier model sold until sometime earlier this month, March 2010.)

The scale has a nice finish and feels solid below my feet even though it has a small footprint, which I like.

SO! A thumbs up from me. Now I need to go lose some weight… if only that was as easy as setting up the scale! :)

Sick about Remote Apple MC377LL A

The remote is beautiful in every respect except usage. Pressing buttons is hard because of the lack of tactile differentiation. The directional buttons are completely flat and they are easy to miss. For example, when trying to press the up button, you might find yourself hitting the aluminum casing instead.

That’s unacceptable. There is no reason Apple can’t make a remote that’s tactile enough to easily differentiate among keys and easily press without looking. Actually they did, the old Apple remote works perfectly in this regard.

Overview:

Pros:
* Aluminum enclosure is beautiful
* Very thin which is practical if you carry it with your laptop for presentations etc
* Dedicated Play button is a plus

Cons

* Buttons are flat and easy to miss when not looking.
* Ergonomically flat
* May require looking at the remote to see where you are pressing buttons (not the case with the old Apple remote)
* IR range is not as good as white Apple remote

I really wanted to like this remote and phase out my older apple remotes, but the lack of tactile differentiation has forced me to do otherwise.
