Port 4 Dual IOGear and me

I’ve been using this product for about six months now. I purchased it to allow me to switch between a Mac PPC (MDD dual 1.25 ghz) and a Dell Optiplex PC. I have several mice, but the one I use most is Logitech’s MX Revolution. I left one non-cordless mouse hooked up for reasons I will explain later in the review. Let me say that if you are technically challenged, you may find setting this up a bit daunting, but if you are reasonably comfortable with basic networking and the like, you won’t have trouble. I don’t use the keyboard shortcuts for the switch at present (maybe I will start, now that I think of it), so I can’t yet comment on those.

This unit has worked very well for me. It does take some getting used to. The rocker switches on the front of the unit represent each CPU. Press once and release, and the monitor image switches from PC to Mac or vice versa. Press and hold, and your USB devices also switch.

Which leads to caveat numero uno: The USB ports on this baby are only USB 1.1 compliant, so gamers need not apply, or will have to settle for having devices requiring USB 2.0 connections wired directly to each machine. I think this is the greatest weakness of this unit, but that said, I find it livable. I do some programming and have to switch back and forth between PC and Mac fairly frequently, and this switch lets me do that with relative ease.

When switching between computers, there is a lag time as the CPU and monitor synch up through the switch. Also, if you are using a cordless mouse, it takes a moment to activate (Like 20 to 30 seconds). I leave a wired mouse hooked up to be sure that I can wake a sleeping machine, or in the rare event that the cordless doesn’t activate (usually solved by unplugging and replugging the transmitter device). Lately I haven’t had to use the corded mouse at all.

I had to laugh when I read the review where the fellow states that when typing at above 60 wpm the switch has trouble keeping up with him. I only occasionally hi

Way before the blockbuster movies came out my sister and best friend recommended a book called Twilight. A fan of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and big young adult fiction reader, they thought I’d really like the story of a shy girl sent to live with her dad in a small town who accidentally falls in love with the local vampire. I gobbled this book up the way Edward desperately wants to sink his teeth into Bella. The story is simple but so enjoyable. Bella is a girl I can easily relate to and who doesn’t want their own perfect Edward? Stephenie Meyer’s idea isn’t that original but the way she tells the story, through Bella’s eyes, makes for a really great love story with an interesting twist. Meyer’s perfectly sets the scene, with her super descriptive style. Thank god this is a series because I couldn’t get enough!

Water for Elephants”
A Novel, Written By Sara Gruen

Book Review by Jay Gilbertson

Who, in their right mind, doesn’t like the circus? If you answered “yes,” then this book is for you. If you answered “no” then this book is for you too. There is something for everyone in this tremendously well-researched novel of schizophrenic madmen, a possible murderer in pink sequins and a towering heroine who happens to be addicted to lemonade. What could be more fun?

A depression-era circus can be the best place to be if you’re Jacob Jankowski and you just buried your parents, found out they mortgaged everything they owned to send you off to veterinary college and ultimately you had nothing left to lose.

Some of the central themes of this page-turner are to follow your instincts, stay true to what you believe in and try to survive no matter what. It’s the what part that kept me flying through the book. The story shifts back and forth from Jacob at ninety (or ninety-three–he’s not sure) to his incredible life on the train with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show On Earth–the circus! By incredible, I mean that there is a constant fear-factor woven underneath every nuance, every situation is rubbed raw in not ever being entirely sure of just what the future holds, or even if Jacob has one. That dread is dolled out in buckets-full by the head honcho of Benzini Brothers–Uncle Al–who can have you “red-lighted” (tossed off the train) for any number of indiscretions, or simply to lesson the load. The incredible part is that, in the end, Jacob not only manages to become the circus veterinarian, he also gets the girl, a bereaved dog, one elephant (Rosie) and eleven horses. Who could ask for more, you ask? Jacob Jankowski, that’s who.

Then there are the animals. A team of “Liberty” horses, lions and zebras and llamas, giraffes, chimps, panthers, and Rosie–the elephant–the Polish elephant no less. The elephant that, like all elephants, drinks far more water than anyone cou

Does Guarneri 3 4 4 really work?

That’s what I was thinking the whole time reading this. Just so you know, I’m 12, but I read this when I was 11. I read it to see what all the hype was about, as someone in my dance class is in love with it. The first thing I was wondering when I opened it was, “So do the vampires ACTUALLY sparkle?” And soon I found out. Yes, yes they do.

Let’s start off with the main character: Bella Swan. I didn’t really like her name, but I’m not going to complain about that, as that’s the least of our problems. I’m not sure what kind of character Meyer was going for, but she was just dumb, to put it in the nicest of words. She wasn’t interesting at all, and she seemed like one of those minor characters you would see in any other book, just there for a little filler. But the problem was, SHE WAS THE MAIN CHARACTER. This already made the book much more boring and stupid than it had to be.

Next up we have… Edward. Edward Cullen. Oooh, do I have a lot (yes, that’s the correct spelling, “a lot” NOT “alot”) to say about him. But I gotta cut it short, seeing as I only have 10 minutes. He had no personality at all, and I think I just summed it up right there. No personality. For your next-to-main character. All I have to say is smoooooooth, Meyer, smoooooooth.

I never understood the town’s name either, I mean, I know that towns have pretty weird names, but “Forks”? How about in my book I call the main town “Sporks” and the next one down “Knives”. Oh, and I love the name of the high school. For those of you lucky enough to have not read this, the high school is Forks High School. I know a lot are like that, my mom’s schools were Amesbury Elementary, Middle, and High, but come on. Meyer could have been a little more creative. I mean, she might as well have named it Meyer High School. Anyway, back to the story! Um… wait, that’s right, THERE IS NO STORY. There’s no plot that I could find, and the end… Well, I couldn’t even tell what was going on at the end.
