Don’t get me wrong, there were a couple moments where I doubted the practicality of some events, but overall I thought it was quite believable. Gruen beautifully paints pictures with her words, and I felt that the story unfolded at a perfect pace. The only thing I didn’t like was the way Marlena, the female protagonist, was portrayed. I’m not a fan of weepy women. Besides that, I thought it was fantastic.

This book would be perfect for my 11 year old cousin, but is by no means a great book for all ages as these reviews would indicate. It is very slapstick and dorky. You could read the whole thing in a day and forget it even sooner. Also, Artemis Fowl is a punk.

The plot elements are great, but the main character/narrator is not. Holden Caulfield is one of the least sympathetic characters in literary history. His voice is hard to read because it is so annoying. It is hard to imagine any real person speak or think like that, regardless of the time period. For most people, this book is very “Love it or hate it”; I think it is a must read for that reason. Everyone should make up their own mind about it.
