Youthplaces Robot 250 Workshops (part 1)

As part of the Robot 250 celebration, we led workshops for children ages 8 through 18 at three Youthplaces locations in the city of Pittsburgh.

At the first workshop, we introduced the canary: a new, low cost device capable of sensing changes in the environment such as temperature, air pollution, humidity, air pressure, sound and light.

We armed each group of kids with a canary, some sharpies and a polaroid camera and asked them to explore their neighborhood.

In the coming workshops, the students will learn ways to express the data the canary senses and we'll ask them to think about how they can use technology to make a difference in their neighborhood.
