Creative Robotics Workshop

This curriculum is for a single-day, creative robotics workshop, designed for middle school students without any prior robotics experience. It was designed specifically for an all-girls class, but could work for boys as well.

Our goal in developing this workshop was to inspire interest in technology among students who are not drawn to the more traditional type of robotics class. Our second goal was to create a complete curriculum that other institutions and instructors would be able to use, even if they do not have robotics expertise.

We piloted this workshop twice with C-MITES (Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students) over the past year (’06 – ‘07) with great success. We have also trained their instructors who will be continuing to teach the course in the future.

This curriculum is a product of the CREATE lab in the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute. More specifically, this curriculum was developed as part of Robot Diaries, a project of TeRK.

We hope that you find it useful!
